Web Links

I will continually update this page with sites of interest to me. Please check back for new additions.

Dogs And Psychology:

Managed Health Care Crisis:

  • www.nomanagedcare.org/mcdowell.htm is a critique of the National Committee for Quality Assurance [NCQA], an organization ostensibly formed to promote quality health care but, in fact, organized by and for major pharmaceutical corporations and their health care agenda.

Other Professionals:

  • www.AcupuncturePortland.com: I've been a proponent of holistic healthcare for many years and of the healing power of acupuncture since 1995. Cita Oudijk has a Masters Degree in Oriental Medicine and is a Licensed Acupuncturist. Please visit her website.

  • www.CounselingRockville.com My father is a psychotherapist in private practice and the director of the Greater Washington Institute for Transactional Analysis in Rockville, Maryland. You will find a link at his site for books he has published on psychotherapy, anger and human relationships.

  • www.EnjoyParentingAgain.com Michael Gorsline is a counselor in Portland who works collaboratively with parents, children and couples to help them acquire practical skills to make life a little easier and more rewarding.

Parenting:

  • 1-2-3 Magic by Thomas Phelan, Ph.D. is the authoritative guide to behavior modification for kids up to 12 years old (I've helped parents in my therapy practice use it with 16 year olds!) Phelan shows parents how to stop arguing with their kids. Available in video as well, 1-2-3 Magic gets my highest possible rating of any parenting book. Dr. Phelan has other good books as well on Adolescence, ADD, etc. His web page is www.ParentMagic.com.

  • How To Behave So Your Children Will, Too! by Sal Severe, Ph.D. is a book whose title says it all. While I have not yet read this book I have heard a review which spoke glowingly of its wisdom. I don't purchase many parenting books but the title is so fundamentally resonant with my work and methodology that I recommend it based on the review I heard and on author John Bradshaw's recommendation. Dr. Severe's web site is www.HowToBehave.com.

Psychiatry and Psychology:

  • Center For The Study of Psychiatry and Psychology. Peter Breggin, M.D. is a psychiatrist and a leading opponent of biopsychiatric treatments such as psychiatric drugs. Of his many books, Talking Back To Prozac and Talking Back To Ritalin have made him an expert witness before congress and a champion for the protection of children from psychiatric medication. Many fascinating and disturbing documents at his web site challenge here-to-fore conventional wisdom on mental illness and treatment. www.breggin.com

Psychotherapy:

  • Scott Miller, Ph. D. is a psychologist, a researcher, and a leading voice for what works in psychotherapy. Famous for his informative and entertaining workshops, his web site, www.talkingcure.com, is updated regularly with pertinent research material and his workshop schedule.
