Biography |
Hello and welcome to my biography page. I've been involved in the psychotherapy community nearly my whole life. Sound unbelievable? It's true. My father, H.D. Johns was a student of Eric Berne (originator of Transactional Analysis; "I'm O.K, You're O.K.") back in the early 1960's. I grew up in a home where discussing social and psychological ideas was common place. As a young boy my parents hosted and participated in workshops and trainings exposing me to countless ideas, philosophies, and people. I first participated in one of my father's workshops when I was about 13 years old. Many of the values and assumptions of psychotherapeutic change are intrinsic to who I am. (For my definition and description of psychotherapy click here to go to my page entitled: What is Psychotherapy? Of particular interest for me are the socio-cultural aspects of emotional and psychological well being. In other words, I place tremendous importance on societal contexts, life experiences and cultural circumstances in sculpting a person's emotional health. The good news: Human beings are tremendously resilient, adaptive and creative both in the face of trauma and with safe opportunities for change. Thank you for your interest in my practice. Please call me with any questions at 503-252-3739.
